Hyrox Journey
Hyrox doubles with Bronte 1.09
Bronte and I decided on a whim to sign up for Hyrox Melbourne at the end of 2024. We committed to a 12 week prep, ready to see how far we could push ourselves. With a solid running base and strength behind us, we went in excited but as it was our very first event, we had no idea what we were truly in for.
From start to finish, we had the BEST time and came away with a result we were genuinely proud of. The energy and atmosphere were addictive, we were hooked straight away. It didn’t take long for us to agree that we wanted to compete again, train harder, and go after an even stronger performance next time.
Doubles taught us how to go all in on the stations and back each other up when needed, which let us play perfectly to our strengths. Our runs felt solid, but we knew that with more focus there, we’d unlock another level. One thing was certain, we were just getting started. Brisbane, here we come.
Hyrox singles Brisbane 1.19.44
The plan was to race Brisbane doubles together in March 2025, and we were all set for another 12-week prep over the New Year period. But when Bronte decided to take her training in a new direction (she’s now loving her bodybuilding journey), I had a big decision to make: find a new partner or back myself and dive headfirst into singles. I chose singles and it turned out to be one of the most challenging yet rewarding decisions I’ve ever made.
Transitioning from doubles to solo racing is a completely different ball game. I had to refine my strategy, I had to learn how to sustain intensity, conserve energy in the right places, and then unleash everything I had when it mattered most. On top of that, I was managing a foot injury, which meant adapting my cardio and spending plenty of time on the ergs, strength, and technique until I could ramp up the running again. That process pushed me in ways I never expected and built a whole new level of resilience.
Come race day, I was so proud of how I executed. It was one of the hardest 1 hour and 19 minutes of my life, but crossing that finish line made every single session and adjustment worth it. The sense of achievement was unmatched.
The moment I finished, I knew straight away that I want to go again, and I’m ready to give it an even bigger crack next time.
Hyrox singles Sydney: 1.19.27
Sydney Hyrox July 2025, just three months after Brisbane. The schedule was tight with Netball season also underway, but my passion for this sport was too strong not to compete again.
This time, I went in with a smarter game plan. I knew I had to be strategic: conserve energy where it mattered, lean into my strengths, and push harder on my 1km runs. That approach 100% paid off, I shaved my overall average pace from 4:58 down to 4:32 and clocked faster times across multiple stations.
The Roxzone was huge at this event and the final km stretching out to 1.6km (a curveball that I wasn’t expecting), I held strong. It was a powerful reminder that every race is different, and adaptability is just as important as your fitness levels.
Leading into Sydney, my foot injury flared up again, but with smart programming and adjusted training, I was able to race hard and still perform. That in itself felt like a massive win.
Did I completely smash my Brisbane time? Not quite. But when I compared my performances side by side, I couldn’t help but feel proud of the progress and how I executed under pressure.
Crossing that line, I was proud but definitely not satisfied. I know there’s so much more in the tank, and I’m hungrier than ever for the next one.
This sport has my heart. I love the challenge, the community, and the growth it brings and I cannot wait to coach others to experience this same feeling, to push beyond their limits, and to realise just how capable they really are.

It’s important to know that every HYROX course brings something slightly different. The last kilometre at Sydney was anywhere from 1.4-1.6km, so the Roxzone layout is never quite the same, and you’ve got to be ready to adapt and rise to whatever’s thrown your way (thats why having a coach is imperative)!!
I’ve fallen in love with this sport, the training, the challenge, the mental grit it takes, and I’m so excited to keep learning, growing, and helping others do the same 🫶🏽
Thats why we’ve created this intimate training program!
